In this initial, full certification classroom-based course, providers enhance their skills in treating adult victims of cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies, while earning their American Heart Association ACLS Providers Course Completion Card.
The AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS Course is designed for healthcare providers who conduct or participates in resuscitation of patients in hospital, medical offices, or in settings where conscious sedation is administered. The Advanced Cardiac Life Support, or ACLS Course also teaches management of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and stroke, the management of respiratory and cardiac arrest, CPR, effective chest compressions and ventilation with a bag mask device (BVM) and the use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).

AHA offers Continuing Education credits through CECBEMS for EMS students who have successfully completed the ACLS Provider classroom course. CECBEMS is a national provider of continuing education credits for EMS professionals only. Because the continuing education approval process for nurses and physicians is much more involved, CME/CE credit for these professions will not be available through the AHA at this time.
Continuing education credit will continue to be offered for multiple professions for completion of the HeartCode® ACLS Part 1 program.
