IPKgS Interlink Pediatric Kg Sheet

Made of washable vinyl, easily disinfected. Made as a fitted sheet for emergency room stretchers, hospital beds and pediatric back boards.

Currently, for pediatric emergencies, the world's most widely used method to determine pediatric weight is a length based resuscitation tape. Every child that is 4 foot tall, does not weigh the same amount of kilograms. Emergency drugs for children are dosed based on the child's weight. For example: Epinephrine, a life saving medication is dosed as 0.01mg/kg. Currently, a skinny 4 foot tall child will receive the same dose of this medication as an extremely obese child who is also 4 foot tall. We are giving medications based on their height and not accurately based on the child's weight in kilograms.

To obtain height, the child must also be lying down, without shoes, and measured from top, center of head to the heel at the point it touches the flat surface. Abdominal measurements will be under clothing, around the child's belly (the child must also be lying down) with the belly button the point of reference for all abdominal measurements. Using height + abdominal girth = weight in Kg.

Even if my project does not fair as well as I hope, I'm not going to give up. I have plans to visit schools and obtain parental consent to obtain boys and girls height and weight to get the most accurate measurements as possible. My goal is to obtain these measurements from a minimum of 10,000 children with the help of all my friends in the medical field. If my project gets funding, I can focus all my time on getting this done by October 2015 so that it will be available for use as quickly as possible.
